City of Guntersville to Host Memorial Day Ceremony at Veterans Park
GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. — The City of Guntersville will host a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 25, at 2:00 p.m. at Veterans Park. The community is invited to gather and pay tribute to the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States of America.
The ceremony will be led by Master of Ceremonies Councilman Pete Sparks, a U.S. Air Force veteran and member of the Guntersville City Council. Mayor Leigh Dollar will offer a welcome and recognition of those in attendance, followed by introductory remarks by Councilman Sparks and an introduction of the keynote speaker.
This year’s keynote address will be delivered by Jason Scheidegger, a member of a Gold Star Family, whose personal connection to sacrifice and service is sure to leave a lasting impression on all in attendance.
The program will also feature the National Anthem and a performance of God Bless America by Rod Gunter, Lynn Holifield, Mac Hollaway, and Ken Patterson. Chief of Police Ryan Darnell, a U.S. Air Force veteran, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The ceremony will include a Final Roll Call, a Moment of Silence, and the Laying of the Wreath by Ken Bubbett and Matt Driver — veterans representing the Guntersville Police Department and Guntersville Fire Department respectively.
The American Legion Post 114 Honor Guard will conduct the Rifle Salute and perform Taps. Opening and closing prayers will be offered by Councilman Richard Manley and Reverend Phillip Bradley.
The public is encouraged to attend and join the Guntersville community in honoring the fallen. Veterans, active duty military, and Gold Star Families are especially welcome.
