DETAILS: The Sunset to Sunrise District grant project is a result of cooperation between Guntersville Middle School, the Electric Board of Guntersville, and the City of Guntersville.
It started when principal Kortney Johnson applied for a grant for solar panels and a greenhouse to place on the Middle School campus. Using funds left over, plus additional TVA funding and an Innovate Alabama grant, 26 “smart poles” were installed along the walking trail. They offer Wi-Fi, weather and information updates, safety buttons, lighting, speakers, and security cameras.
