Friends of the Guntersville Public Library are proud to present Colonel Mary Sandra (Hall) Van Bebber, Retired U.S. Army Medical Specialist, honoring her service and all veterans who have served, on Saturday, June 14, Flag Day, at the Guntersville Public Library McCain-Gilbreath Auditorium.

The program will start with multiple community small group book discussions of “The Women” by Kristin Hannah.  It is a powerful story of courage, sisterhood, and the women who served.  Reading the book before the event is encouraged, but not required.  The library will have 10 print copies and one audiobook available at the library and multiple e-books and audiobooks online from the library.

Registration is required (no walk-ins due to space).  Registration will begin today May 14 via the library’s website, Facebook or Instagram.  Seating is very limited, so register today.  The event is open to everyone in the community especially our veterans.  Light refreshments will be served.   A commemorative custom bookmark will be given to each participant.  Leading up to Ret. Col. Van Bebber’s personal reflections, as a woman during the war.  She was a Physical Therapist in Vietnam.

Retired Colonel Van Bebber is a local Vietnam veteran.  While at Montevallo, an Army Medical specialist came to speak to the graduating class.  Sandy talked to her about what the Army offered and was told that she could take a test to possibly get into Physical Therapy school and the Army would pay for her schooling.  She took the test and was one of 16 that were accepted from across the US to attend Physical Therapy school at Baylor.  She served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1984.
