MVAC March-April Quilt Exhibit Features Kay Ledbetter
March 5 - April 27
Mountain Valley Arts Council is pleased to present a solo exhibit of quilts by Linda Kay Ledbetter of Albertville. This exhibit will last from March 5th through April 27th. The artists’ reception will be Tuesday, March 12th from 5:30 – 7 PM and will also include the artists from Snead State Community College whose art will also be exhibited.
Even though her mother quilted, Linda Kay started quilting with her late sister, Shirley Gilliland, and her sister-in-law, Chris, only some 25 years ago. Keeping it in the family, her niece, Rebecca Gilliland Tait, who grew up in Guntersville and now lives in Texas is also an avid piecer and quilter.
She has attended numerous quilt retreats where she enjoys seeing other quilters’ projects, and techniques, and meeting some very interesting people. It’s such a different setting than just quilting by herself.
Although Linda Kay has used many different techniques both long-arm and hand-quilting, she particularly likes applique which you’ll see in her smaller quilts that feature dogs, cats, and birds. She conducted two classes in Albertville teaching her applique techniques. A quilt shop in Birmingham has exhibited her quilts to promote their quilting supplies for sale.
Visitors to the gallery are delighted to find that MVAC gets quilts out of the closets and bedrooms and into the gallery for them to appreciate. This exhibit is supported by generous MVAC members and local businesses. Come by the Mountain Valley Arts Council Gallery at 440 Gunter Avenue in Guntersville to see Linda Kay’s quilts during this two-month exhibit.
