SUMMARY:July & August Artist Exhibits at MVAC
DESCRIPTION:Mountain Valley Arts Council’s exhibits for July and August will feature soft and hard artwork –quilt collages and art by Diane Knoblauch of Scottsboro\, quilts by Lisa Hammock of Arab\, and wood-turned and pyrography (wood-burned) art by Kenyan and Kendall Kelley of Grant. The artists’ reception will be Tuesday July 9th from 5:30 – 7;00 PM and will feature Norman Jenkins on the piano. Refreshments will be served. \nDiane Knoblauch has been quilting for 47 years. She lived in Section for 32 years but has also lived in South Carolina\, Arkansas\, and California with her husband\, quilting and taking quilting classes along the way. Her stash of quilt fabrics has some 1\,000 fabrics in it\, and she often uses about 100 in a quilt\, most of which are wall hangings. Her favorite quilt features Neversink Pit\, a cave/sinkhole in Fackler\, AL that is 100 feet deep and 40 feet in diameter at the top. Having made 50+ quilts so far\, Diane quilts 3 – 4 hours\, 3 days a week. She has also worked in gel painting\, low-water immersion printing\, and jewelry. Currently\, Diane is the Secretary/Treasurer of the Society of Jackson County. Her work can also be seen at River’s Edge Gallery on Scottsboro’s courthouse square. \nLisa Hammock and her husband David (a renowned metal artist) reside in the Arab area. Lisa has over 30 years of sewing experience encompassing a diverse range of specialties including home decor\, French hand sewing\, smocking children’s clothes\, and more recently\, quilting. She studied at the Martha Pulling School of Art Fashion in Huntsville\, Alabama\, where she benefitted from the mentorship of esteemed instructors such as Martha Campbell Pulling\, Gloria McKinnon\, and Eva Hawkins. \nAs a member of the American Quilters Society (AQS)\, Lisa has participated in educational sessions led by renowned figures like Judith Baker Montano. Currently\, Lisa is advancing her skills in goldwork embroidery through the London Embroidery School\, demonstrating her commitment to lifelong learning and artistic growth. A dedicated crafter and creator\, she finds joy in exploring the intersection of different mediums to innovate and produce unique pieces. \n  \nKenyan and Kendall Kelley of Grant enjoy their retirement by spending days together in their large wood shop where Kenyan turns wood and Kendall does wood-burned illustrations on blocks of wood under the name of “K4 Kreations”. Both have participated in several MVAC exhibits including the annual Holiday Art Market. Kenyan’s bowls have been featured in MVAC’s year-long exhibits at Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth’s office suite in Montgomery. \nThese exhibits are funded by generous MVAC members and the City of Guntersville. Please come in and check out these exhibits. \nPRESS RELEASE – MVAC July and August Exhibits
